[dt.: »Konto, Guthaben«] der, ein System zur Regelung des Zugangs zu bestimmten Daten innerhalb eines internen oder externen Netzwerks. Die wichtigste Regelfunktion eines (vollständig eingerichteten) Accounts ist die Identifizierung eines Benutzers über den Benutzernamen und das Passwort. Im Account sind diese beiden Merkmale archiviert; sie müssen zu Beginn einer Sitzung eingegeben werden, um Zugang zum System zu erhalten. In lokalen Netzwerken dient der Account dazu, den Benutzer zu identifizieren, die Zugriffsberechtigung zu prüfen und den Zugang zu protokollieren. Bei kommerziellen Online-Diensten wird auf der Basis dieser Protokolle die Abrechnung erstellt.
